Lago de Caicedo-Yuso. The only permanent lake system in Euskadi.
This space is the only permanent representation of a lake system in the Basque Country. Located at the end of the "Diapiro de Salinas de Añana" that feeds salt water to the Salt Valley of Añana, it is a RAMSAR International Wetland since 2009 and belongs to Red Natura 2000 as a Site of Community Importance (LIC) since 2006.
In addition, scientists from the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) have focused on it to explain the medieval climate and human activity of the last 2,500 in the south of the province.
A visit to the lake allows to enjoy a diverse vegetation, with forest formations in its periphery of the lake and very unique communities connected to the water, with own species of sweet waters and salt.
As for the fauna, it is a place of nesting and wintering of waterfowl. A pleasant footpath joins the lake of Caicedo-Yuso with the Salt Valley of Añana.
