Lobera de Barrón. In the Sierra de Árcamo.
Along with the one of Guibijo, the Lobera de Barrón is one of the only two wards of Araba / Alava that are conserved. It is found in the mountain range of Árcamo, with a lot of woodland, natural hiding places and abundance of cattle, reason why the presence of wolf has been habitual.
On a previous lobera of heather and branches, the "Lobera de Barron" was built in the 16th century, a great construction made in the middle of the mountain to cope with the abundant number of wolves. This consists of two walls that converge in a pit, all built with stones without mortar and topped with larger stones forming an eave to avoid the wolf's leap.
The system to capture the wolf consisted of the organization of big blasts that tried to harass the animal to enter the lobera, forcing him to run until he rushed into the pit.
