Sheltered in the surroundings of the Natural Park of Valderejo, very close to the town of Villanañe, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Angosto awaits the visitor. A place that breathes nature and tranquility where, according to the legend, a shepherd found in 1089 an image of the Virgin floating in the water after a flood.

So far the neighbors of the municipalities are approaching in June to participate in a busy pilgrimage and at the beginning of September is celebrated a great fair that congregates farmers, cattlemen and craftsmen of the zone.

Built in honor of the Virgin that gives it its name in the first half of the 14th century, it is a Gothic church with a simple structure. There you can see a beautiful altarpiece of six panels where the life of the Virgin is told. The carving is of century XIV and belongs to the group called "Andra Mari".

Around the church has been erected a complex of modern buildings that houses the "Escuela de Espiritualidad" (School of Spirituality), a place to replenish forces, deepen in faith, silence and peace; The youth and pilgrim hostel.

Also in the proximities is the impregnated oak of Angosto. A centenarian quercusilex under which the Boards of the Hijosdalgos of the Real Valdegovía Valley were celebrated, untitled nobles, descendants of the warriors who fought against the Muslim invasion during the reconquest. A tradition dating back to the Middle Ages.

The Tourist Office of Valdegovía organizes visits to the monastery, the cave where the shepherd found the image of the Virgin, and that is next to the river and the oak tree.
